main PreAMPed interfaceCharacter, Grit, and Finesse

PreAMPed is an audio plugin that recreates many of the qualities of analog preamplifiers.  This includes subtle EQ response curves, low- and high- frequency saturation, differences between left and right signals, crosstalk, noise, transformer/coil impulse response, and saturation and EQ changes due to gain changes.

Thirteen Separate Preamp Modelsdetail view of 13 amp models

Hardware preamps have subtle differences between every make and model.  PreAMPed has 13 distinct preamp models with separate EQ curves, saturation sounds, transient responses, crosstalk, and a many other specifications.  Overall PreAMPed utilizes over forty separate parameters to determine each of the 13 different preamp modules within PreAMPed.  From the clean and refined sound of the Blue B, Grey, and Steel models, to the distinct character of older preamp models like the Red, Old, or Tape D models

main set of user controlsStandard Control

As a tool, PreAMPed can be used on multiple tracks to provide subtle enhancement to individual track elements, or on overall mixes.  PreAMPed includes many controls that are common on mixing consoles and separate hardware preamps.  This includes a 4-band EQ, a phase inversion switch, a left and right signal swapping switch, input trim control, and output gain control.

In-depth Adjustments

In addition to the common hardware controls, PreAMPed also includes several useful settings that help fine-tune the sound.  This includes an output signal clipper to prevent signal clipping or to add an additional distorted sound, mid/side processing option to tweak the stereo imaging, and additional saturation controls to add specified levels of distortion to the needed frequencies.  PreAMPed also has switchable oversampling to improve the analog feel of the EQ controls and to reduce aliasing.  Finally, PreAMPed includes LVC-Audio’s user-friendly visual metering of the input and output signals that includes VU-style metering, PPM-style metering, and an output loudness meter that displays peak and RMS levels.additional controls

Main Features:

  • Virtual preamp emulator with 13 separate preamp models
  • Common hardware preamp controls, including gain, phase, and left/right channel swapping
  • Four-band EQ, including high and low shelf filters, and two parametric mid band EQs
  • Drive control that simulates increasing or decreasing the internal gain of a hardware preamp, while maintaining a consistent output level
  • Stereo controls, including balance, stereo width, and mid/side processing option
  • Adjustable output clipper
  • Additional saturation with controllable high pass filter and selectable saturation type
  • Configurable routing between the EQ, Saturation, and Preamp modeling module
  • Selectable oversampling (linear phase 2x, 4x, and 8x oversampling)
  • User-friendly graphical input and output metering with VU-style, PPM-style, and loudness meters

System requirements and specifications

  • Windows: VST, VST3, RTAS, and AAX plugin formats.  PreAMPed requires Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 machines with a processor that supports SSE2 (AMD or Intel processor from around 2004 or later)
  • OSX: AU, VST, VST3, RTAS, and AAX plugin formats.  PreAMPed requires OSX 10.5 or later, and an Intel Core2Duo processor (or better)

Download PreAMPed and User Manual

A demo version of PreAMPed can be downloaded by using the links below.  The demo version of the plugin is fully functioning except for occasional bypassing of the plugin’s processing (approximately 1 time per minute, for 4 seconds).  Before purchasing PreAMPed, please download and test the demo version of the plugin to ensure that it works on your system and with your chosen DAW software.  For any questions or problems with PreAMPed, please use the Contact page or view the support forum hosted by KVR

PreAMPed is available for purchase at the price of $54.95 USD (Currently on sale).  To purchase PreAMPed, visit the Purchase Page.

A special thanks to all of my beta testers.  Their help has greatly shaped the look and sound of this plugin.

Version 1.0.6

  • AAX and RTAS support for Windows
  • New Undo/Redo and A/B comparison
  • New alternate settings for individual knobs (right-click or ctrl-shift click on knob to view)
  • Increased drive gain (be warned, this can get nasty)
  • Improved accuracy of VU text values greater than -1 dB, as well as VU text for Reduce meter
  • More informative About Box (click on the LVC-Audio logo)
  • Improved handling of plugin latency with Steinberg software (VST3 format is still not recommended with Wavelab)
  • Windows installer now checks for presence of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2013 (see install.txt for further information)
  • Improved handling of saving and recalling settings, including recalling knob multi-configuration settings
  • Changed knobs to newer style
  • General enhancements and fixes

Version 1.0.5

  • new frequency-variable noise modeling
  • improved HQ oversampling
  • update for compatibility with Pro Tools 11.2 (AAX)
  • text entry fix for controls with negative-only values (e.g., typing “5” will automatically be recognized as -5)
  • improve meter reset when clicking on the VU Text readout
  • standardized meter ballistics across all plugins
  • signed OSX installers
  • fixed unnecessary fast fade-in when playback was stopped and started
  • revised preset loading and saving function to “future-proof” loading older presets in new version of plugin

Version 1.0.4

  • Revised oversampling to reduce aliasing and CPU load
  • Add DC Block to reduce sub frequencies on certain amp models
  • Fix transformer emulation to minimize differences when enabling oversampling

Version 1.0.3

  • AAX and RTAS plugin format for OSX (beta)
  • Fixed font display issue (Windows and OSX) and text entry bug (OSX)
  • Changed knob functionality for compliance with ProTools
  • New installer for Windows

Version 1.0.2

  • fixed frequency response issue (preamp models) with stopping and restarting playback while oversampling is engaged
  • increased maximum value of saturation knob control
  • increase the range of the output gain control and input trim control
  • fixed potential memory issues when closing the plugin
  • improved saturation algorithms for Limit, Black, Modern, BlueB, Old, and TapeD models
